Health Loves Company

As much as we like to think of ourselves as independent thinkers, we are a society that is very easily influenced by our peers. This can be troublesome when it comes to making healthy choices for ourselves during the work week.

It takes a lot of will power to choose a healthy lunch option when someone in the office starts taking orders for the pizza place around the corner. Eating right and working out are hard enough to begin with, but everything is harder when you feel like you’re going at it alone. However, chances are, you probably aren’t the only one in your office looking to make these positive improvements.

Once you’ve found a few like-minded coworkers, you’ll be surprised at how much easier it is to stay on track with your goals. You’ll also find that these healthier options spread like wildfire.

At Philosophy, we’ve recently adopted a weekly tradition that we call “Salad Circle.” One person brings ingredients for a different salad every week that we all share. This started between just a few people, but now almost the whole office partakes and we look forward to it each week.

There are other great ways to get fit with people from work as well. Try taking a long walk with a coworker during your lunch break—or better yet—go on a hike or bike ride together over the weekend.

Not only are all these ideas better for your health, but they are also great for building camaraderie in the workplace, which, we can all agree, makes for better business.
