Beyond the content: Social interaction
My favorite part of social media is that its sole purpose is to be social. It was not developed for people to post content and then go on about their day. Its self-defining name means that we are to be social, interact and converse.
Often on social media, both on personal and professional/business accounts, users simply post content. By doing this, we end up talking to ourselves, or worse yet, talking to no one at all. Businesses see much more interaction, traffic and engagement when they are interactive themselves. For example, take the time to ask questions. Business2Community suggests that asking the right questions can noticeably boost comments and likes, and that responding to comments can help establish a two-way dialogue with fans and followers.
It may take some extra effort, but be sure to not only respond to comments and likes on your own accounts, but dive into the network beyond your own timeline and news feed and interact with other users, content and conversations.
For example, see what other like-minded businesses are doing on their platforms or seek out potential customers and start liking/sharing their content (if appropriate). It will not only increase your reach, but it will build rapport among users, customers and competition so your business is top-of-mind.
Don’t know where to get started? Here are a few of my favorite tools to help organize, track and engage on all your social accounts:
- Nuvi: For real time social tracking and listening, Nuvi is a fantastic option. A subscription is required, but it allows you to track multiple social networks and respond in real-time all from one dashboard.
- HootSuite: For increasing your social network management, Hootsuite could be perfect for you—it also has free and subscription-based options.
- SocialMention: SocialMention is a social media search engine that searches for user-generated content to help keep you in the conversation at all times.
Armed with these tools and tips, your business will be the talk of the social media town. Happy “social”izing!
